We reject President Gustavo Petro’s call to organize “liberating guards”: no community or political movement may decide to arm itself or replace the Security Forces

The Foundation for the Rule of Law (FEDe. Colombia) rejects the statements published by President Gustavo Petro on his official X account on August 3, 2026. In them, he called for the organization of "liberating guards", described them as a "people's militia", proposed coordinating them with the National Army and stated that each community could decide whether its members should take up arms. This amounts to a serious call to violence.
