FEDe. Colombia rejects Iván Cepeda’s announcement that he will declare himself in civil disobedience

The Foundation for the Rule of Law (FEDe. Colombia) rejects the announcement by former presidential candidate Iván Cepeda Castro that he will declare himself in civil disobedience if President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella does not meet a series of demands. On the one hand, Cepeda's main demand — that De la Espriella renounce his U.S. citizenship in order to take office — has no legal or constitutional basis. On the other, the threat to declare civil disobedience is, in practice, a call to disregard the current legal order and an invitation to citizens to disobey the law.
