The Alliance for Democracy condemns the murder of journalist Cristian Herrera Nariño and demands guarantees for the free and safe exercise of the press in Colombia

The Alliance for Democracy expresses its solidarity with and support for the family of Cristian Herrera Mariño, his friends and colleagues, the team of the Foundation for Press Freedom (FLIP) and Colombian journalism at this painful time. We condemn the murder of Cristian Herrera, which took place on Saturday, June 6, in Cúcuta. His death is a loss for journalism, for Norte de Santander and for the country. Cristian was a correspondent and a member of the Board of Directors of FLIP — an organization within our Co-creating Group — and devoted his life to investigative journalism, exposing corruption, violence and public-order problems. He had also warned of threats against his life. Those threats must be a priority line of investigation.
