Action to require the Colombian Geological Survey to comply with its statutory duty to ensure that official advertising does not promote or extol public servants and is limited to institutional purposes

05/02/2026

The Council of State declared that the Colombian Geological Survey used its official advertising to disseminate content unrelated to its institutional purpose. Consequently, it ordered the entity to refrain from directing its official channels beyond the functions and competencies assigned to it by law, even when such advertising is carried out within the framework of campaigns coordinated with other national entities. The decision clarified that the general interest and inter-institutional coordination do not justify the use of official advertising outside the legal mission of each entity.
