A strategic Ecopetrol asset reaches the courts: action admitted to prevent its sale and protect public resources
28/01/2026
The possible sale of the Permian asset, one of Ecopetrol's most profitable holdings, is now before the courts: the Administrative Tribunal of Cundinamarca admitted a popular action seeking to prevent any divestment from proceeding without independent technical assessment, expert analysis, and transparency, given the alleged deterioration of public patrimony, energy security, and administrative morality. The proceedings arise amid the reconstitution of the Board of Directors and key decisions on investment, debt, and dividends, in a context of divided positions on fracking and the company's international direction, which has reignited debate over the future of the Permian asset.
